Hi everyone,

Just a quick note to let you know that the July tour is booked, finalised and we're really looking forward to it! We're doing more lovely dates with our friends Sincabeza across the UK, plus they're jaunting back to Ireland, so check out our gigs page for the full details.

Hey there,

We've emerged from our underground songwriting bunker just long enough to tell you that we're playing our first show in 3 months in Coventry on 17th May, with the mighty-yet-also-very-pretty Caribou and just-signed-to-Warp Born Ruffians. We had sworn off gigs until the summer, but this one's going to be so good we couldn't turn around and say no, could we?

The other exciting news we have to tell you is that we're starting to put together a brief tour at the start of July with our most excellent French friends Sincabeza. They're over to do some recording with The Iron Column, so we figured we'd bury those memories of last October's "difficult" tour and play some more UK shows together. It's going to be great - especially as we're going to have plenty of exciting new music to play. Wahey!

Booking for our summer gigs is being undertaken by Clique Clack, so if you've any interest in having us play anywhere near you, get in touch with them by visiting: http://www.myspace.com/cliqueclack />
Lastly, we've also been raking in some more lovely reviews for "A Hat", which is finally seeing proper distribution in Germany and the USA at the moment... thanks to everyone for their kind words.

Adios amigos,

Soo.Varr.Iss.

11/03/2008 | Quick Shameless Plug Alert
Hi folks,

No real Souvaris news of late - we're still locked up in our bunker feverishly working on a ridiculous number of new songs - but we'd like to take the opportunity to divert your attention to a couple of books that have recently gone on sale but our good friend, relative and faithful roadie Jim Alexander:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Darwins-Nuts-Jim-Alexander/dp/0955485029/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1205057304&sr=1-1 /> "Darwin's Nuts" is an amazingly written analysis of Darwin's original writing about evolution, and quite how spectacularly wrongly the vast majority of people have interpreted it. Jim delivers a dramatic refutation of the dominant paradigm in biological thinking in fantastically engaging and witty manner. Check it out.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/JIMS-LARGE-HANDBOOK-Pocket-Hedgehogs/dp/095548507X/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1205258483&sr=1-6 /> "Jim's Very Large Handbook of Rock 'n' Roll" is a brilliant little tome delivering all the goods on your favourite subject. If you ever feel a little unsure about rock 'n' roll, its evolution, importance and smell, YOU NEED THIS BOOK. Plus, it's dirt cheap and fits snugly in your pocket for instant pub quiz winning ability!

We'll be back with some proper Souvaris news soonish. Until then, get your reading glasses on.

Lovingly,

Soo.Varr.Iss.

01/02/2008 | A Flick Of The Wrist
Howdy folks,

And a late, late welcome to 2008 from us. If you haven't been paying attention, you'll have already missed the fact that we played two cracking gigs to get the year started - with our good friends and previous touring buddies Crevecoeur in Lincoln, and with the mighty Dalek in Coventry.

You might also have missed all the footage on YouTube of us making complete tits of ourselves at the Damn You! Christmas Covers Party back on 22nd December. If you fancy a giggle, we recommend a look.

Aside from these fun-filled frolics, 2008 is shaping up to be a quieter year than 2007, which was probably our busiest ever. We can guarantee that there will be no new album and significantly less than 4 tours this year! However, we're already putting together plans for a long weekend or two in the first half of the year, and we have some grand plans for the latter half of '08 that we'll tell you more about in a month or two...

Just to let you know that "A Hat" has been re-pressed and is available again from all good record shops, or direct (and for cheap!) from
http://www.gringorecords.com - go check it out before it sells out again! We also only have a very small number of t-shirts left, so either visit the Gringo shop for a maroon affair, or contact us if you're after a navy one (we have single figures of these left)...

We're concentrating on writing and rehearsing a huge wealth of new material that needs shaping into manageable song-shaped chunks, and we'll inevitably be previewing a few of these at shows later in the year.

Speak soon,

Soo.Varr.Iss.

05/12/2007 | Days in the wake
Hi everyone,

A little after the fact we know, but we just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who we came into contact with on our UK/Ireland tour with the mighty Sincabeza in October and November... the set-backs and calamaties we suffered in the space of barely 3 weeks were so numerous (and occasionally monumental) that they have already become the stuff of legend. Somehow, we managed to stagger through to the end of a tour in which we used 4 vans, blew 5 amps, broke 2 Line 6 DL-4 delay pedals, got a car hit by the police, and accidentally stole someone's guitar and carted it around Ireland before we could return it to its rightful owner.

During these amusing/hilarious/frequently testing times, our spirits were raised inestimably by the many messages of affection and offers of support that came to us from people who attended our shows and also communicated with us in various ways on the internet. There are far too many people for us to properly thank individually, but we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to anybody and everybody who did contact us.

Despite all our problems, we all still managed to have a fantastic time wherever we played on our tour, and so we would also like to say a massive thank you to anyone who was able to come and see us play.

It's now December, and now that we've just about recovered from the tour, our only current plans are to play the Damn You! Christmas Covers Party on Saturday 22nd December. Yes, we will be singing! After that, we're going to take a little time off live performances to concentrate on finishing some of the ton of songs we've got half-written, and to start formulating grand plans for the latter half of 2008. In the meantime, watch this space... or this video of a new song we're working on, thanks to Phillipe of Sincabeza and Youtube:

18/10/2007 | We are away... on tour with Sincabeza! Hi everyone,

Just to let you know we are now on tour with our goof friends, the mighty Sincabeza!

Yes, we have already overcome a broken-down van and 2 blown guitar amps, and are now on our merry way around Ireland and the prettier spots of the UK... check
http://www.souvaris.com/newgigs.php for all the details.

In the meantime, please do bear with us if we're slow to respond to your message/email/order/whatever... our access to the internet over the next few days is going to be sporadic at best!

Take care, and hope fully see you soon - if you do make it to a show, do come and say hi!

Lovingly,

30/09/2007 | Souvaris & Sincabeza ON TOUR in the UK & Ireland in October!
Hi everyone,

Well, we're glad to tell you that normal service has been resumed for this website and we've gone and updated it as much as we can - there are bags of new reviews of "A Hat" and live performances from this year (including this one from this month: http://ishotthedeputy.com/?q=node/568) and a couple of new interviews up as well.

And our big news for October is that our joint tour with the mighty Sincabeza is here, and we're going to be tearing up the UK and Ireland in their company for a good portion of the month! There are a couple of dates still being finalised, but you should find all the information you need here: http://www.souvaris.com/newgigs.php or here: http://www.myspace.com/souvaris .

We'll be selling the last of our t-shirts and also the last couple of copies of the tour CDR "May All Your Children be Acrobats" that we found down the back of the sofa on this tour, so get in touch if you want to reserve one!

Lots of love,

Soo. Varr. Iss.

01/09/2007 | Technical... problems...
Hi folks,

Long time no update on this website - apologies, but we've been having various behind the scenes technical problems caused by moving houses and computers with all the data on breaking down... in the meantime we strongly recommend you visit http://www.myspace.com/souvaris for all the latest news!

And lots of news there is! We're touring the UK and Ireland in October with the amazing power-math trio Sincabeza, which we're very excited about! "A Hat" was released in July and the first pressing sold out in something stupid like a month! We now have new copies back in stock and available for purchase from http://www.gringorecords.com - if you live in the USA or Japan and want a copy, get in touch and we'll direct you to a domestic supplier. Lastly, look out for an amazing new documentary called "In The Hands Of The Gods" in cinemas near you in a few weeks... let's just say parts of the soundtrack are particularly tasty...

We'll get this damn thing back going and updated as soon as we can; in the meantime - see you at http://www.myspace.com/souvaris for latest news about gigs, recent reviews for "A Hat", video clips and more!

Best wishes,

Soo. Varr. Iss.

10/06/2007 | 3 months of infamy
Hi Everyone,

Well it’s been a while since we last updated you – sorry for that, and how are things going? We’ve been having a mental time since March ended...

April saw us spending a couple of weeks or so in Europe with our best friend/one-man-drone-outfit Gareth Hardwick, playing around with some excellent bands in Belgium, France and Spain, in some amazing places, thanks to some fantastic people. Briefly, we must mention the following musical artists: Thee More Shallows, aMute, Miranda, Sincabeza, Meltselectors, 28.50, Roland Volapuk and L’Ombre de la Souris dans la Deuxieme Lune. We should also mention the following wonderful people who put us on, let us stay at their houses, and were extremely lovely: Jerome aMute & his Seahorse band, Emilie, Charles & the Marmot Collective, Phoene, Maxence, Sophie, Ross & family, Yolanda, Sylvain, Ludo, the Tonlist collective & of our very good friend Bertie and the Hector Plasma collective. We also need to thank our dutiful roadies, Jim “Thing One” Alexander and Stuart “Thing Two” Woodman, and our good friends Helene Castro and David Moult, who managed to join us for a few days each of our tour. Gareth and Thing Two took a bunch of photos documenting our time abroad, which you can have a gander at by looking here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/hardwickgj/sets/72157600163294664 />
http://www.flickr.com/photos/stuartwoodman />
May saw us play a shitload of shows around the UK, again in the presence of some great bands – most notably, the beautiful people that make up the band and touring party of Crevecoeur. We played a bunch of shows with them whilst they were on their UK tour, and every single one was an absolute pleasure. It was with real tears in our eyes that we bade them farewell when they went home. We also played with Do Make Say Think, Elephant Micah & Vollmar, Lionshare, OvO and a load of great bands in Leeds, The Old Testament (members of Burnst) in Manchester, Steve Watson, Consolation Prizefighter, Head of Programmes, Mea Culpa, Samuel Sharp and Tractor. For this we need to thank: Ollie Simpson, Paul & Claire, Nick, Andy, Richard, Gary, Pete Heddle, Theo & Kate. You are all lovely, lovely people.

So what does June hold? Well, we already missed informing you about the first thing, which was the fact that Gringo Records has been label of the week for Radio 1, and our song Puny Go Stompin’ was played on Huw Stephens’ show on Thursday night after a little piece on the label’s 10th anniversary – go here to check out the archives (starts around 1:20 into the programme):
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/huwstephens />
We also just played Gringo Records’ 10th Anniversary festival yesterday, which was a wonderful celebration with 300 good people and an awesome array of the UK’s finest bands.

Later this month, our second album “A Hat” will finally hit all good record shops around the UK on 18th June! Of course, if you can’t wait until then, you really should mosey on over to
http://www.gringorecords.com, where you can buy a copy direct from the label for cheaper than you’ll find it in a shop… we’ve already had a review or two crop up and will keep adding links to them on our “press” page as and when people tell us about them

Phew! That’s a fair amount of catching up we’ve just done. Souvaris is going to spend the summer moving houses (which means our internet access will be sporadic) and starting practising again so that we’ve got some new songs to play when we return to the live arena in the autumn (as well as do a couple of one-off gigs – check out our “live” page)… we’re also already planning an October UK tour with the mighty Sincabeza, which is being arranged by non-profit DIY booking agency Clique Clack. Check it out:
http://www.myspace.com/cliqueclack />
That should do it for now! As ever, if you want to communicate with us directly, use the form on our “who?” page or send us a message via the Myspazz… we are always looking for more shows to play and more friends to meet, so get in touch! Just don’t be offended if we take a while to arrive, it’s a summer of upheaval that’s awaits us!

Lovingly,

Soo.Varr.Iss.

22/04/2007 | Back in Black
Hi everyone,

Just a quick note to let you know we are back in the country after two glorious and exhausting weeks gallavanting around the Belgian, French and Spanish countryside... many thanks to everyone who put us up in their houses/flats/squats, arranged shows for us, played with us, took us to the good bars, fed and watered us, put up with our general stink and off-colour jokes, and of course, came to our shows and spoke to us. We had a whale of a time.

We're now going to have a couple of day's rest, before we play with Thee More Shallows one more time in Coventry on Wed 25th, then go to the Dirty Three ATP, before doing one final April show in Cambridge on Mon 30th. We hope you can make it and say hi.

More (photos! videos! leftover merch!) soon too - we promise!

A bientot,

Soo.Varr.Iss

27/03/2007 | One last post before touring
Hi everyone,

How are you doing? Well, we hope. It's been a goshdarned awful long time since we updated you on the tricks we've been up to, but then we've been pulling together a hell of a lot of shit for you.

First of all, we played a couple of cracking gigs in the last couple of weeks - one at Imperial College London with [B}Bilge Pump, Future Corpses & Man Aubergine, and one supporting Kieran Hebden & Steve Reid at the Rescue Rooms in Nottingham. We had great times at both, and BIG THANK YOUSE go to anyone who came to either.

Now, future gigs. In April, we will embark upon our fortnight-long European Tour (incorporating France, Belgium & Spain, as well as a special show at a friend's house near Bordeaux), following that up by supporting Thee More Shallows in Coventry and having the pleasure of once again playing with Elephant Micah in Cambridge. In May, we'll be playing all over England with a bunch of good folk - most notably a show or two with the mighty Do Make Say Think, and also joining our fantastic French friends Crevecoeur at a whole host of places. Lastly, we'll be playing the Gringo 10th Anniversary Festival on the second weekend of June, alongside such luminaries as Lords, Owen Tromans and those buggers Bilge Pump again. Check out
http://www.souvaris.com/live.php for the full skinny!

The other thing we've been working on is product product product to go alongside our live actions for the next 3 months:

1: "A Hat" - the long-awaited second Souvaris long-playing CD album.
We've been promising this for 6 months now, but we will finally be receiving copies from the manufacturer by the start of April. You can now order yourself a regular copy at http://www.gringorecords.com/souvaris.htm, which will be sent out as soon as we get 'em in stock. Alternatively, we will also be doing an extremely limited edition of this album that will come packaged inside a hand-stitched hat! We're not certain on final numbers that we'll get in for this because our knitting team are still click-clacking away like crazy, but we think there'll be somewhere around 30 produced anywhere in the world, ever. They will be a few quid more expensive than the 'standard' edition CD album, but may well come with a secret gift or two to sweeten the deal... We're planning on taking the majority of these beauties on tour with us, but if you really, really need one, contact us before 4th April!

2: '"May All Your Children Be Acrobats" - Souvaris live 2003-06' Tour CDR.
We've been beavering away behind the scenes and have put together a new release on our Homoerotic imprint that stitches together 5 songs from 3 golden years of live performances. They come in a limited edition of 100, packaged with some gorgeous Helene Castro-penned-&-watercoloured artwork in a mini-DVD-style package that is as handsome as it is ergonomic. We'll initially be selling these exclusively at gigs, but if you desperately, desperately want one, get in touch and we'll hold one for you.

3: Souvaris T-shirts
Now then, we've been asked about and pleaded with for official Souvaris t-shirts for literally years now. Finally, we're pleased to announce that we now stock Souvaris t-shirts to fit your hopeless sartorial requirements. Featuring an exclusive design of a heartbroken and top-hatted cloud by Souvaris guitarist extraordinaire Dan Layton, these come in handsome royal blue or enigmatic burgundy, in a variety of sizes. You can now buy these suckers off us at gigs and they'll also be available live and direct from http://www.gringorecords.com/souvaris.htm by the end of the week. Beautiful.

Yeesh, told you we've been busy. Oh yes, and you may have noticed that we've relaunched our website in a beautiful new design, inspired by Alice Stevenson's artwork for "A Hat" and engineered by the wondrous Bertrand Manni - many thanks to both.

Lastly, we've had a little problem with our contact form on the website in that anyone who has sent us a message has not been able to send their email address. We're trying to fix the form so you can send your email address with any message in the future, but if you have sent us a message recently and not received an answer - try contacting us again with your email address included in the message!

Is that enough for you? Got any more questions or things you want to get off your chest? Then use our new forum! We're getting sick of fighting off the spammers already. Or you can use the form on our contact page. OR you can always message us via Myspace... just please don't get offended if we take a little while to answer - we're going to be away for long stretched of the next couple of months, and messages tend to get buried in the blizzard when we dare not check our inboxes for a few hours...

Hope to see you soon,

Soo.Varr.Iss.

27/02/2007 | Legendary Bathos beckons
Greeting comrades,

It's been a while since we announced any news, so apologies. The reason for this is because we are currently working full bore on sorting out as many gigs in France and the UK as possible throughout April and May. We've got a stack of things confirmed with even more in the pipeline - check out our 'live' page for the most up-to-date skinny! Highlights for us have to be supporting Kieran Hebden (Four tet) & Steve Reid in Nottingham, a Gringo Records spectacular in London, playing with Thee More Shallows in Brussels, loads of gigs with some really great bands on the continent, and a May Bank holiday jaunt across England. Go check 'em out!

The other stuff we've been beavering is all produce related. Frustrated with our lack of anything except vinyl in our online shop? We should have copies of CDs of the NEW ALBUM "A Hat" in stock by the end of March (available exclusively from here and http://www.gringorecords.com until it's officially released later in the year), and we're also preparing an extremely limited edition tour CDR compilation of choice live cuts, some handsome t-shirts AND a new line of beautiful badges for your delectation. These will be available at all our live shows whilst stocks last, and we'll make a limited number available online too. If you definitely want to grab any of these before we run out of stock and can't get to a gig, don't hesitate to get in touch and we'll do our best to sort you out.

We've also been beavering away even more in the background for this here website, which will soon be receiving an "A Hat"-style makeover and some fancy new features and MP3s that we can't tell you about right now. Keep your eyes peeled, and don't forget to come back soon...

Lots of good time lovin' from us to you,

Soo. Varr. Iss

29/01/2007 | Work in progress Greetings friends,

And welcome to the continuing redevelopment of souvaris.com. Thanks for bearing with us whilst we reshuffle, rejig and repair everything to make you a spanking new website. We've changed a lot in the last month; creating a new comprehensive links page, uploading a bunch of old photos into our new album, updating the shop and release pages.

There'll soon be more too - we're in the process of digging through the Souvaris Memorial Archives to extract some MP3s of gigs we've done down the years, and at some point soon we'll be installing sound clips and a flash player so that you can have a listen to everything we've ever released. We'll even get all the old MP3s up online for you soon too!

We also have more immediate news though, in the form of LOADS OF GIGS. We're touring the circumference of France in April and will be playing as many UK gigs we can at weekends from February until June. If you're interested/willing in having us play near you, please get in touch!

Oh, and that pesky second album "A Hat" should be released by Gringo Records at the end of March. We're currently sorting out the last artwork/packaging wrangles and it's looking proper smart! More on this soon, we promise...

Lots of love,

souvaris

Hello!

You've stumbled onto the first draft of the much-promised revamped website for the band known as Souvaris. We're still very much in the process of sorting it all out, so please bear with us.
