"Matador of Shame"
Souvaris release #8
BULB01 - Japanese CDEP
Released April 2005
The first release by new Japanese label Bulbphone Records. Consists of releases #1 and #4, remastered for CD by Ian Whitehead and Aaron Doyle and with new photographic artwork by David Moult. Limited to 500 copies, almost all of which didn't make it out of Japan - apart from the ones you could buy from our online shop. The artwork looks amazing, and it comes with a natty little Souvaris sticker too. Lovely. Shame about the music really (arf).
FULL TRACKLISTING:
1. Looking for excuses for a long face
2. To Behave Like A Guard Dog Yet Fit Into A Matchbox
3. Mnemonic

Split 7" with The Workhouse
Souvaris release #4
AWK15
Released Summer 2003.
We were invited to split one 7" with our old friends The Workhouse by the lovely Mr John Banfield, aka Awkward Silence Recordings. Our side contains "To Behave Like A Guard Dog Yet Fit Into a Matchbox" is our shortest released song (7 minutes). Recorded and mixed at home by ourselves one April night. Mistitled on the sleeve and the wrong artwork used, due to our general incompetence. 500 copies of this record were pressde.
The Workhouse's track would turn up on their long-awaited debut album. Our song from this release was made available on CD by the virtues of 2005 Japanese CDEP "Matador of Shame". We'd like to take the opportunity to thank Awkward Silence for letting us make the track available again, and to point you in the direction of their website, where you'll find many highly recommended releases featuring the likes of Papa M, Part Chimp, Tarentel, Arovane and Sybarite.

Untitled 12" EP
Souvaris release #1
TLS001
Released November 2002.
Two of three songs written and kept in 2001, recorded and mixed in January 2002 at the Depot studio in Coventry by the masterful Dan Layton (who would join our ranks in early 2004) in the space of 20 hours or so. A woefully quiet recording rescued by some handy mastering by an anonymous man at GZ vinyl in Czechoslovakia. 1000 copies pressed by "Telesphere Records" - aka Michael Graham Beevor (band member April2001-October2003) and Paul Ackroyd. Loads of copies still available due to laughable mix-up between Telesphere and the distributors. Artwork is slightly fucked and insert is definitely fucked, so we went back to the drawing board for the CD re-release. People still write to us to tell how they like to fall asleep/have a smoke/have (presumably slow and extremely meaningful) sex to this record. We assume they haven't found the secret end to "Looking for Excuses" which features the vocal talents of Messrs Simson, Stockwell and Layton engaged in a petty squabble over playing with toys. A mature debut indeed.
Norman Records were pretty much the only people to review this record, saying:
"Here is Souvaris with a 12" that comes on all Bark Psychosis or Slowdive (last album only) performing one of them twangy Tortoise instrumentals. Will also appeal to fans of Mogwai/Sigur Ros but is miles ahead of the usual post rock sludge. It sounds brilliant - really full and there's some tremendous drumming. The other side is a more Rachel's/Philip Glass type piano repetition filled out with your post rock guitar doodlings. Like Sierpinski meets The Workhouse."
Needless to say, Souvaris fully endorse and utilise Norman Records for all our online musical product requirements.
The two songs one this record were later made available on CD with the release of Japanese CDEP "Matador of Shame" in April 2005.
TRACKLISTING:
longer side: Looking for Excuses for a Long Face
